No rainwater tank needed

Because your community is part of the Box Hill sustainable water network, your new home is recognised for BASIX certification.

That means you no longer need a rainwater tank to achieve BASIX, which will save you money.

About BASIX

The Building Sustainability Index, BASIX, is a web planning tool measuring the performance of new homes against water, energy and thermal benchmarks. It is administered by the Department of Planning and Environment.

BASIX applies to new homes and home renovations of $50,000 or more.

BASIX requires all new homes in NSW to:

  • Use up to 40% less potable water
  • Produce up to 40% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than the average home.

The BASIX Water target incorporates regional variations such as soil type, climate, rainfall and evaporation rates.

The BASIX Energy target varies according to building type and location.

Each Development Application for a residential dwelling either a single dwelling or a multiunit, must be submitted with a BASIX Certificate. A Certificate is issued once a BASIX assessment has been satisfactorily completed, using the online tool on the BASIX website.

The homeowner, builder, architect or authorised agent is responsible for:

  • completing the assessment
  • ensuring the BASIX commitments are clearly marked on the plans
  • submitting the BASIX Certificate with the development application.

For more information or to use the BASIX tool go to www.basix.nsw.gov.au. You can also phone the BASIX Help Line on 1300 650 908.

Eligible for highest BASIX rating

Because The Gables community is part of the sustainable water network they are recognised by BASIX certification. In addition, they are also eligible for high BASIX ratings.

Using recycled water can attract a 60 point rating from BASIX, helping the homeowner reach a higher score for their home.

How do I apply for BASIX Certification

When you go online to apply for BASIX certification, please make sure you:

  • Delete the requirement for a rainwater tank
  • Replace “Rainwater Tank” with “Reticulated Alternative Water Supply”.

Our recycled water services automatically gives you a higher BASIX score than rainwater tanks. And if you also install approved water savings devices in your toilet, bathroom, kitchen and laundry you will be eligible for the highest BASIX water rating.
